Surgical
We specialize in surgical dermatology and are pleased to offer Mohs micrographic surgery, the most advanced and effective surgical treatment for the removal of skin cancers. Mohs differs from conventional surgical removal of skin cancers because it relies on microscopic evaluation at the time that the lesion is removed. If the surgeon detects skin cancer cells at the surgical margins of the excised portion of skin, he or she will remove additional samples until the entire skin cancer has been successfully removed (as verified by microscopic evaluation). This process is repeated in "stages" during a single surgical appointment until the patient is skin cancer free.
Mohs surgery is preferred in cosmetically sensitive areas, such as the face, ears, scalp, nose, neck, hands, and feet. Also, because of its unparalleled cure rate, it is also recommended for skin cancers that have recurred after initial treatment by conventional medical or surgical techniques.
